Community Rules

General Expectations

  1. Respect all writers and staff.

  2. Harassment, discrimination, hate speech, or personal attacks will not be tolerated.

  3. OOC disputes should never bleed into IC roleplay.

  4. Staff will not be involved in OOC personal issues between writers. Issues between members of the community are expected to be checked at the door.

  5. In character actions equal in character consequences up to and including character death.

Roleplay Etiquette
  1. Consent & Limits

    1. Always respect another writer’s limits. If in doubt, ask OOC before escalating scenes.

    2. If a writer chooses to Fade to Black (FTB), a brief synopsis should be given to the writer of the character and the intention of the scene.

    3. Writers cannot use FTB to avoid roleplay consequences or roleplay situations.

    4. If there are any issues between writers pertaining to consent and limits, they are expected to submit a ticket for Moderator assistance if they cannot come to an agreement.

  2. Godmodding & Metagaming

    1. Do not control another writer’s character without their consent.

    2. NEVER use OOC knowledge within IC parameters.

      1. IC use of OOC information will equate to a complete void of the scene where the information was used. No exceptions.

      2. Temporary or permanent bans may be implemented.

  3. Death or loss of your character is possible, but must be reasonable and include pertinent roleplay.

Posting Standards
  1. Keep posts immersive and within the sim’s setting.

  2. Using AI to write backstories is acceptable, but relying on AI to write out roleplay posts is prohibited and frowned upon. Repeated behavior will result in a permanent ban to preserve community health and quality of roleplay.

  3. OOC conversations should be used rarely and bracketed (( )) when briefly needed.

  4. IC text messages are permitted. Anyone responding to a text message by arriving on scene must wait three (3) entire rounds of RP before they are permitted to arrive.

  5. Police / Fire Rescue must wait to arrive on scene until three (3) complete rounds of RP have been completed before they are permitted to arrive.

    1. Contingent on large event scenes, the round is pending a 40-minute window.

  6. Do not go afk in the middle of a scene. If necessary, as we understand that happens from time to time, ensure you have notified the other writer(s) in the scene BEFORE you need to step away.

Adult and Mature Content
  1. This is an adult roleplay environment with adult themes to include violence, sexual themes, drugs, death, etc. Roleplay is only permitted in designated areas between consenting adults. All writers on sim must be 18+ in accordance with Linden Labs TOS.

  2. Any sexual roleplay involving avatars with child-like appearances is strictly prohibited and will result in an immediate and permanent ban

  3. Personal limits will be respected.

Sim Environment
  1. Do not grief, spam, or disrupt the roleplay environment. In character areas, they should be treated as such at all times.

  2. Do not use scripts, attachments, or gestures that cause excessive lag.

  3. In order to use a vehicle on sim, you must “register” to do so, and they are first-come, first-served. When full, we will start a waiting list. Pick up your vehicles when not in use; they will be returned if left on the sim.

  4. Respect private rentals; however, they are considered IC areas on the sim. If going afk in your rental, please set an away status to indicate you are actually not in play.

Conflict Resolution
  1. Writers should first attempt to resolve disputes between themselves before contacting staff.

  2. If there is a need for escalation, please open a ticket and include logs/screenshots with a brief summary of the issue.

  3. We are not here to moderate OOC interactions, unless they are absolutely necessary in the cases of bigotry, hate speech, or causing absolute chaos while ON the sim.

  4. Admin cannot/will not police issues that do not happen while writers are off the sim or that happen outside the Discord.

  5. Staff decisions are final.

Character Creation and Storylines
  1. Characters must fit within the sim’s lore and setting.

  2. Multiple characters are allowed, but they should not be used to unfairly influence RP outcomes. You must submit an application for each character you are writing, as we will allow two active characters per writer.

    1. Exceptions will be made for characters who are incarcerated and serving a life sentence.

  3. You, as a player, may not maintain multiple leadership roles within the factions.

  4. You, as a player, may not occupy more than one criminal organization.

  5. Automatic weapons, weapons of mass destruction, etc, can be obtained, but must include the moderation from the sim admin. These plot points would take a lengthy amount of time and major risks, as well as a large amount of roleplay. We aren’t saying no, we are saying “let's do it right.”

Consequences

Any and all moderation will be implemented by the admin team on a case-by-case basis. Caution is advised when involving admin; if more than one party is at fault in a situation, all parties causing the issue will potentially face consequences.

  1. Verbal Warning

  2. Temporary Ban

  3. Permanent Ban

Severe violations (harassment, underage content, griefing, hate speech) may result in an immediate removal or ban without a warning being issued first.

Combat Rules

General Principles
  1. Combat is meant to enhance roleplay, not as a means to win at all costs. Fair play first.

  2. On Viceport, combat is consent-based. All parties should have some level of agreement before resorting to physical combat or lethal scenarios. When an agreement can't be reached, dice should be used.

  3. Absolutely no godmodding! You cannot control another writer's actions, movements, or outcomes without their consent.

  4. As always, no metagaming. You cannot use OOC knowledge to gain an IC combat advantage.

  5. There are NO safe zones on sim, including personal rentals, as they are in play for roleplay purposes.

Mixed Combat System
  1. Writers should treat narrative fights as RP combat with dice.

  2. In general, the following should be considered when writing a violent scene:

    1. The character emotes their initiating action in the first round.

    2. Weapon or action in the second round.

For example:

Character 1 draws his weapon and aims it at the intruder.

Character 2 sees the gun drawn and starts to run

Character 1 squeezes the trigger and fires at Character 2

(Dice roll for outcome unless outcome agreed upon by writers OOCly)

Character 2 is struck in the right buttocks and falls to the ground.

  1. Dice outcomes should be decided by the writers in the scene or follow the general principle that the higher or lower the roll, the better the outcome.

  2. The Collective Admin will NOT be required to moderate your scenes, unless it is specifically requested. Please submit a ticket in situations where one is absolutely needed.

Weapons and Gear
  1. Allowed: Please note that even though weapons are allowed, unless they are registered, they will be considered illegally owned. Staff will NOT be regulating the acquisition of weapons in these categories; however, roleplay in obtaining should be directed towards the gangs who deal them or a licensed gun store.

    1. Small arms (handguns)

    2. Knives

    3. Bats

    4. Melee improvised weapons

    5. M-16, M-4, AK-47 (or similar)

    6. Shot guns

    7. Carbines/hunting rifles

    8. Molotov cocktails or similar homemade weapons

    9. Anything else within reason along the lines of the above

  2. Restricted: Weapons in this category are hard to come by in Viceport and require extensive roleplay in order to obtain. Acquisition and use must go through Admin.

    1. Military-grade explosives

    2. Machine guns

    3. Automatic weapons

    4. Military grade sniper rifles (SWAT is the only exception)

    5. 50 caliber or higher ammunition

  3. Concealed Carry: Characters may hide weapons IC, but discovery is possible with RP via search, frisk, pat-down, etc.

Damages and Injuries
  1. You are not invincible. A gunshot will drop you, or a bat to the head will stagger you, if not knock you out.

  2. Injuries persist! Serious wounds should carry into future roleplay by way of hospital roleplay, bandages, recovery, etc. If a character is shot in the leg, they would not be running a marathon the next day.

  3. Death is a very real possibility when engaging in violent scenarios.

  4. Avoiding adverse roleplay by way of avoidance or logging off is not considered good roleplay etiquette and will be handled by Admin for habitual offenders.

  5. All players have the right to role-play, but not a right to the “life” of their character.

Collateral
  1. Shooting into crowded areas or using homemade weapons meant to inflict multi-person damage will hit bystanders. Always follow the posting rule of prepping a weapon through the first post and following through on the second post.

  2. Law enforcement will respond to in-character events, expect pursuits, arrests, or investigations.

  3. Major explosions or events with large collateral events should be cleared with Admin prior to it happening when possible.

Combat Posting Rules
  1. Always use turn order when combat-related events are happening, and ensure the response to the action is accurate in your post.

  2. Keep combat posts concise (3-7 lines) to keep the scenario moving along at a consistent pace. This is especially important when in mass scenes where combat is happening.

  3. Police or other persons contacted during any roleplay must take 3 turns before entering the scene; this applies to combat as well. A max of 40 minutes can be implemented in lieu of 3 post turns when larger scenes are being written.

ALWAYS respect other writers’ comfort zones and limits, then use fade-to-black when needed. If used, agree OOCly on the ‘outcome’ of the conflict for continuing roleplay post-incident.
